Energy Systems Engineer

The Institute of Electronics and Computer Science (IECS) invites an Energy Systems Engineer (students are welcome to apply) to join our team and contribute to the international scientific project LACISE, driving innovation in future energy technologies.

IECS is a leading European research center in electronics, computer science, and information technologies, dedicated to fostering a knowledge-based economy in Latvia. Our institute is located at Dzērbenes Street 14, Riga, Latvia.


About the Project

The Swiss–Latvian cooperation program project LACISE aims to develop solutions for modern energy challenges and educate the next generation of scientists.


Your Responsibilities

  • Conduct independent or supervised research and technical tasks to improve the stability and efficiency of energy systems and electrical grids.
  • Develop and optimize algorithms and software for real-time data processing and analysis to enhance power grid operations.
  • Test algorithms, software, and tools through experiments.
  • Collaborate with international partners and exchange information/data.
  • Document research results, prepare scientific publications, and deliver presentations.

What We’re Looking For

  • Bachelor’s, Master’s, or Doctoral degree in electrical power engineering or a related field.
  • Experience in energy system modeling. Familiarity with PowerFactory (DIgSILENT), PSS/E, Python, MATLAB Simulink, or OPAL-RT is an advantage.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to work independently and in a team.
  • High sense of responsibility and attention to detail.
  • Motivation to learn, publish scientific papers, attend conferences, and engage in research activities.
  • Good command of English (spoken and written).

Salary

EUR 1,600–3,840 gross, depending on experience and workload.


Working Hours

Full-time, 8:30–17:00 (flexible schedule available).
