AI Programming Engineer

The Institute of Electronics and Computer Science (IECS) invites an Artificial Intelligence (AI) Programming Engineer (students are welcome to apply) to join our team and contribute to the international scientific project LACISE, advancing future technologies in the energy sector.

EDI is a leading European research center in electronics, computer science, and information technologies, committed to fostering a knowledge-based economy in Latvia. Our institute is located at Dzērbenes Street 14, Riga, Latvia.


About the Project

The Swiss-Latvian cooperation program project LACISE aims to develop solutions for modern energy challenges and educate the next generation of scientists.


Main Responsibilities

  • Independently or under the supervision of a research lead, carry out research and/or technical tasks related to developing AI tools for improving the stability and efficiency of electrical grids.
  • Research and develop optimization algorithms and software for real-time data processing and analysis to enhance power grid performance.
  • Test developed algorithms, software, and tools in various experiments.
  • Collaborate with international partners and exchange information/data.
  • Document research results, prepare scientific publications, and deliver presentations.

What We're Looking For

  • Bachelor’s, Master’s, or Doctoral degree in engineering or computer science.
  • Experience in developing machine learning and/or optimization algorithms and/or data analysis solutions.
    Advantage: Experience with Ubuntu/Linux terminal, Python, PyTorch, GIT.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to work both independently and in a team.
  • High sense of responsibility and attention to detail.
  • Willingness to learn and acquire new skills.
  • Motivation to work in science, write and publish scientific papers, attend conferences, and engage in research activities.
  • Good command of Latvian and English (spoken and written).

  • Collaborate with international partners and exchange information/data.
  • Document research results, prepare scientific publications, and deliver presentations.

What We’re Looking For

  • Bachelor’s, Master’s, or Doctoral degree in electrical power engineering or a related field.
  • Experience in energy system modeling. Familiarity with PowerFactory (DIgSILENT), PSS/E, Python, MATLAB Simulink, or OPAL-RT is an advantage.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to work independently and in a team.
  • High sense of responsibility and attention to detail.
  • Motivation to learn, publish scientific papers, attend conferences, and engage in research activities.
  • Good command of English (spoken and written).
